Back in 2011, a fisherman off the coast of Florida caught a female bull shark and made a remarkable discovery—in the uterus of the shark he found a live two-headed shark fetus. The bizarre creature died shortly thereafter and was eventually delivered to scientists. An article published this month in the Journal of Fish Biology confirms that the fetus is the first case of dicephalia—”two-headedness”—in a bull shark. Dicephalia occurs when twins fail to fully separate during development in the uterus, a condition also known as axial bifurcation. The rare deformity has been observed in a wide variety of animals as well as humans, though the abnormality is often fatal.

Italian artist Angelo Musco creates incredible large-scale photographic compositions that are made up of thousands or even millions of human bodies. The time-consuming process of creating each piece starts with photo shoots of nude volunteers. The models are isolated in Photoshop and then added to Musco’s compositions. The final works, some of which have required two years of post production, can be upwards of 40 feet wide and 12 feet tall. The compositions often feature natural forms like forests and egg cells, or swirling aggregations. They are often references to child birth. Musco’s own birth was extremely difficult—he was born two months late, and was partially paralyzed during birth.
Musco will be the subject of Conception, a feature-length documentary by Robert Jason that is scheduled for release in fall 2013. His work will also be on display in a solo show at acte2galerie in Paris, April 11 to June 8, 2013. For more on Musco’s life and work, see this article on Time LightBox.

Fairy circles, circular bare patches of land that dot the grasslands of Southwestern Africa, have been mystery to scientists for years. In an article published in the March issue of Science, German scientist Norbert Jürgens proposes that sand termites are the mysterious engineers behind the phenomenon. Much in the same way that beavers build dams to create favorable wet environments for themselves, Jürgens believes the termites create the circles to help the soil absorb water and maintain the grasslands (which the termites feed on) through extremely dry conditions. The termites create the circles by doing what they do best—eating. They feed on grass roots, killing the grass and forming the fairy circles. For more on Jürgens’ research, see this New York Times article.

In 2011, the bacon-flavoring experts at J & D’s Foods released Baconlube, a bacon-flavored water-based personal lubricant. Today they announced Bacon Condoms, a box of Baconlube-lubricated prophylactics said to “make your meat, look like meat.” Heeb notes that the condoms are 100% certified kosher. With April Fool’s Day around the corner, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were pulling a prank, however they are listed for sale at their site BaconCondoms.com. They are apparently also working on a Sriracha Lube.
Made in America of the highest quality latex. Every Bacon Condom has been rigorously tested to help ensure reliability and the utmost safety for when you’re makin’ Bacon. As an added bonus, J&D’s baconlube™ ultra premium water based meat flavored personal lubricant has been generously applied inside and out for an even more hot pork experience.

A video that claims to have spotted a shapeshifting reptilian or alien member of the secret service during Barack Obama’s speech at the 2012 APAIC policy conference has gained traction on YouTube. Though the individual’s unusual appearance is likely the result of shadows and camera artifacts, National Security Council chief spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden responded to Wired’s Danger Room about the conspiracy theory. “I can’t confirm the claims made in this video, but any alleged program to guard the president with aliens or robots would likely have to be scaled back or eliminated in the sequester,” Hayden commented. “I’d refer you to the Secret Service or Area 51 for more details.” The best part of the entire situation is the White House’s lack of a flat denial. Perhaps this strange-looking agent really is a reptilian alien from outer space, or maybe it’s just Voldemort.

I was going to make a scene where Third Pig traps the wolf and turns him into a big pot of stew, but I thought that was pretty sick (actually, Third Pig would be eating the wolf AND his brothers because they’re in his stomach…have you ever thought this was a crazy story!?)
